Project: Oncology Clinic, Port Clinton, OH

The newly renovated 8,500 sqft 1 South Wing was designed to meet the growing community’s needs by converting a 50-year old medical surgical patient room unit into a state of the art medical oncology unit, sleep lab center, and cardiology clinic. For several years the unit had been used for medical oncology, but with minor alterations the unit struggled with staff inefficiencies and a less than ideal healing environment for the patient. The entire north end of the wing was renovated to hold the hospitals Oncology Clinic. The south end was reconfigured to include the hospital’s Cardiology Clinic and Sleep Center.

The client was looking for a shortened construction time with minimal effect on the floor’s ongoing operations. To accommodate the client’s objectives the design team turned to a prefabricated wall system. The system allowed for the client to achieve the aesthetics desired while meeting the budget and aggressive schedule. Operable partitions and glass walls of varying opacity were incorporated to achieve flexible treatment spaces that can be converted from private to semi-private to meet individual patient preferences. Creative use of glazing brings natural light further into the building’s core. The healing environment was further enhanced with the use of large scaled graphic art, uplifting word art, and natural color palette.

Project: Radiation Oncology Practice, Sylvania, OH

This project consisted of 7,000 sf of renovated space and a 3,500 sf addition to an existing medical office building. This radiation treatment space was designed to create synergy with adjacent medical oncology suite, resulting in much improved patient experience and outcomes. Patient ‘on deck’ space takes advantage of views to adjacent wooded park with large expanse of glass allowing ample natural light into the space. Elsewhere, colors from nature and wood finishes serve to reduce stress and anxiety. Special attention was given to the treatment space to reduce the sense of confinement and isolation during treatment. A special LED starry sky twinkles above the patient.

The space has six exam rooms, one relocated CT simulator, one linear accelerator and associated ancillary spaces.

Project: Urgent Care / Occupational Health Renovation, Port Clinton, OH

This project is a rehabilitation of a vacant 8,000 sf building. The redesigned space includes four suites; the primary suite designed to function as a combined urgent care / occupational health center. This suite is then connected to the adjacent hospital emergency department with an addition using large expanses of curtain wall to introduce ample natural light into the space. The addition also serves as a staging area for transporting patients to and from the helipad. Other suites in the rehabbed building include visiting clinic space and a retail pharmacy.

Project: Outpatient Surgery Center, Toledo, OH

This project was a complete renovation and addition to the Client’s Outpatient Surgery Center. It included 5 operating rooms, 4 Endoscopy procedure rooms, 1 Cystology procedure room, all pre-op and post-op spaces, cleaning/sterilizing space along with all ancillary spaces associated with this center.

All procedure rooms were increased in size to meet the requirements of JCAHO and CMS. These rooms are fit with state of the art technology, facilitated though installation of suspended equipment/gas booms. Corridors are widened and scrub facilities and arrangements brought up to current standards. Patient flow and equipment flow are rearranged into separate zones to minimize interferences and potential cross contamination.

Project was constructed in phases to maintain daily facility operations.

Project: Physical Therapy Suite, Toledo, OH

This project was a complete renovation to the lower level floor of the Client’s building for a new Physical Therapy Suite.

Client had outgrown existing PT space constructed 20 years earlier.  A new PT space was created in available basement space in one of the buildings on the main campus.  Challenging height constraints are addressed using an open structure concept while acoustics are addressed using strategically placed acoustic “clouds”. A source of movement and energy is introduced into the space with carpet patterns and a circular fan that intercepts several rooms within the suite. Highly affective LED fixtures tuned to render natural light are used in this windowless space.  Client requested a color palette that would not ‘age out’ quickly, while accents of muted warm tones are added to interject energy and elements of nature.

Project: Oncology Office, Sylvania, OH

Project is a design of a new suite for the client’s 8 Physician Oncology practice. Suite consists of 17 semi private infusion stations, 1 private infusion room, pharmacy (mixing), oral dispense room, 14 exam rooms, education space, business office and support areas such as staff areas. During design the project grew to include a dedicated entrance for infusion patients to have additional privacy and ease of access.

Designed to be a relaxing environment, the Client elected to incorporate the beauty of nature into the indoor surroundings. Large windows provide natural light and scenic views to patients receiving treatments. Relaxing colors, inspirational quotes, and images of nature provide additional connection to the outdoors.

Project: Renovated Patient Rooms, Toledo, OH

Project is a redesign and renovation of 16 existing patient rooms on patient room floor of client’s medical care facility. Design included reconfigured toilet rooms to allow for easier patient access and maneuverability. Some room layouts were designed to allow for hospital to offer rooms as semi private or private depending on inpatient census numbers.   Other rooms were designed as strictly private rooms to accommodate the special needs of neurology patients. Redesigned foot walls provide patients and staff with additional storage space and improved infection control management. Project was phased to allow the majority of patient rooms to remain in operation during construction.
